Highland Titles and a Plot

Scottish landowners have long been called Lairds. Highland Titles have made this descriptive title of Laird, (Lord) or Lady available to everybody. Their plots of land are the ultimate gift for someone with Scottish ancestry or for those who are passionate about conservation. They have created a thriving community of landowners across the world, which in turn has allowed them to manage the Estate as a Nature Reserve.

Laird, Lord and Lady Titles

‘Laird’ is a descriptive title that is traditionally afforded to Scottish landowners by the owner himself or, more commonly, by those living and working on the estate. Laird is a Scottish word and is simply simply the Scots form of the English ‘Lord’.  The the female equivalent  is ‘Lady’. So the easiest way to become a Lord or Lady is to buy land from Highland Titles and become a Laird!
Professor Peter and Laura Bevis, a biologist and accountant respectively, conceived the idea in 2005, from their family Estate in the Scottish Highlands. After creating 12 new woods on family owned land, they realised that to really make a difference, they needed to buy land which was had the potential to be restored and conserved, or which was at risk from development. So in 2007 they used their profits to buy the Keil Estate in Appin, now operated by local volunteers as the Highland Titles Nature Reserve. The company has grown from there and we now have thousands of supporters and land owners around the world.

Our objectives are to protect ancient and semi-natural woodlands and open-ground habitats, to upgrade non-native conifer plantations to new native broadleaf plantings and to protect these conserved lands from ever being developed.  We viewed numerous woodlands and rejected all of them, before we came across the estate that we own now and are actively seeking the right estate to become the next project. Keil Hill is in a magnificent location, with stunning views across Loch Linnhe; with easy access from the main Oban to Fort William road and less than a mile from the busy Duror village. We think it is perfect and were afraid one day a developer just might have thought so too!

To receive a Highland Title would not only be a fun gift, and at the same time helping  to protect  ancient woodlands and conserved lands in bonny Scotland, of course I would have to be called Lady Ogilvie Marshall  (hint to any family members reading this).  What would your title be?   Take a look at their  facebook page, it's full of great photography and  what about a Clootie Dumpling?  well go see for your self and let me know what you think.

A Day of Remembrance

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
During the early days of the Second Battle of Ypres a young Canadian artillery officer, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, was killed on 2nd May, 1915 in the gun positions near Ypres. An exploding German artillery shell landed near him. He was serving in the same Canadian artillery unit as a friend of his, the Canadian military doctor and artillery commander Major John McCrae.
As the brigade doctor, John McCrae was asked to conduct the burial service for Alexis because the chaplain had been called away somewhere else on duty that evening. It is believed that later that evening, after the burial, John began the draft for his now famous poem “In Flanders Fields”.

Behind The Showcase Sterling Silver Snowflake Necklace $71 Giveaway

Hello my name is Huiyi  pronounced "Hway Yee" a Cantonese name which means "a kind girl"  I always blush when I have to mention this and I am so glad you can't see me ha ha. Well last month Krishenka hosted a giveaway for a set of my tear drop earrings and so I decided that I would like give one of you lovely ladies a chance to win one of my new range of Sterling Silver Snowflake necklaces, value $71 (£43.50) Good luck to all and look forward to sending this necklace to the winner. Easy entry using rafflecopter below.

After finishing my degree to become an interior designer I then went on to study jewellery design at the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, after my graduation I then moved to the states. I felt lost in the commercial world and went back to interior design for a living but always felt there was something missing and this needed to be corrected. At the beginning of 2010 I came back to the UK, and it was whist waiting for my documents to be approved I decided to make something fun and something I liked. My first “Pencil Lover” collection was born but as I had only sold two items over a two year period,  I felt my confidence beginning to slip away.
Luckily for me I met Krishenka aka Christine who was also selling on Etsy, she was very patient with me and gave me lots of help & encouragement whilst I was learning how to stand up, just like a newborn. How time flies and here we are now in 2012 and after working very hard for the past two years I now have 183 items in my Etsy shop and have sold 1,481 items. Last month a set of my sterling silver earring studs was featured on the US TV CBS channel show called “Fashion Matters”.

It was another fantastic encouragement to my career. Looking back, all the hard work was worthwhile and I love what I am doing now and am planning many more new designs in the near future. I am delighted that Krishenka and I still keep in touch and I hope that whoever wins my Sterling Silver Snowflake necklace will enjoy wearing it for many years to come. The winner will also have a choice of necklace length from, 14,16,18 & 20 inches

Fifty Sheds of Grey

The novel "Fifty Shades Of Grey" has seduced women - and baffled blokes.
Now a spoof,
Fifty Sheds Of Grey, offers a treat for the men. The book has author Colin Grey recounting his love encounters at the bottom of his garden. Here are some extracts...

Fifty Sheds Of Grey

We tried various positions - round the back, on the side, up against a wall...
but in the end we came to the same conclusion, the bottom of the garden was the only place for a garden shed

She stood before me, trembling in my shed.
"I'm yours for the night," she gasped, "You can do whatever you want with me."
So I took her to McDonalds.

She knelt before me on the shed floor and tugged gently at first, then harder until finally it came.
I moaned with pleasure. Now for the other Welly.

Ever since she read THAT book, I've had to buy all kinds of ropes, chains and shackles.
She still manages to break into the shed, though.

"Put on this rubber suit and mask," I instructed, calmly.
"Mmmm, kinky!" she purred.
"Yes," I said, "You can't be too careful with all that asbestos in the shed roof."

"I'm a very naughty girl," she said, biting her lip. "I need to be punished."
So I invited my mum to stay for the weekend.

"Harder!" she cried, gripping the workbench tightly. "Harder!"
"Okay," I said. "What's the capital of Nicaragua?"

I lay back exhausted, gazing happily out of the shed window.
Despite my concerns about my inexperience, my rhubarb had come up a treat.

"Are you sure you can take the pain?" she demanded, brandishing stilettos.
"I think so," I gulped. "Here we go, then," she said, and showed me the receipt.

"Hurt me!" she begged, raising her skirt as she bent over my workbench.
"Very well," I replied. "You've got cellulite and no dress sense."

"Are you sure you want this?" I asked. "When I'm done, you won't be able to sit down for weeks."
She nodded. "Okay," I said, putting the three-piece suite on eBay.

"Punish me!" she cried. "Make me suffer like only a real man can!"
"Very well," I replied, leaving the toilet seat up.

I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey and by page 382 was so bored I gave up, this on the other hand is funny and a better read in my opinion that is!!!!
