Beautiful Hobbit Home.. Branded "Harmful" to the Countryside
A young couple have been left heartbroken after planners ordered their unique 'hobbit home' to be bulldozed, effectively leaving them homeless.
Charlie Hague and Megan Williams, both 25, built the roundhouse from scratch with their own hands, using only natural materials.
But the couple lost their appeal today against a planning enforcement notice telling them to tear their pride and joy home down.
The order gives the couple two months to return the land to its previous condition.
Mr Lloyd’s report stated: 'The character and appearance of the countryside should be protected for its intrinsic sake.
'The benefits of a low-impact development do not outweigh the harm to the character and appearance of the countryside.'
Friends said the couple were half expecting their appeal to be turned down but were still 'devastated' by the decision.
Charlie and Megan, who have a one-year-old son Eli, built the house on private land in Glandwr, North Pembrokeshire, last summer.
Locals nicknamed it the hobbit home, although most people did not even know it was there because it is so secluded.
But Pembrokeshire County Council ordered the couple to demolish their home because it was built without planning permission.
Charlie and Megan, who live a self-sufficient lifestyle, fought the decision claiming it had a low impact on the environment because of its unique construction.
Charlie, a sculptor and woodworker, said: 'We built this house to provide our son with a healthy environment to grow up in.
'We were born in the area, went to school here, and have lived here all our lives. We wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.'
The pair acknowledged their property was built without prior consent but said there was no other way for them to afford their own home.
Megan said: 'I know it’s not a possibility for everyone, and our situation here is unique, but if young people are to live and work in the area they need somewhere to live.'

Hamburger chef Jamie Oliver has just won a battle against one of the largest fast food chains in the world. After Oliver showed how McDonald’s hamburgers are made, the franchise announced it will change its recipe.
According to Oliver, the fatty parts of beef are “washed” in ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process, according to the presenter, the food is deemed unfit for human consumption.
According to the chef and presenter, Jamie Oliver, who has undertaken a war against the fast food industry: “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.”
Besides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health. Oliver calls it “the pink slime process.”
“Why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?” asked the chef, who wages a war against the fast food industry.
In one of his initiatives, Oliver demonstrates to children how nuggets are made. After selecting the best parts of the chicken, the remains (fat, skin and internal organs) are processed for these fried foods.
The company, Arcos Dorados, the franchise manager in Latin America, said such a procedure is not practiced in the region. The same applies to the product in Ireland and the UK, where they use meat from local suppliers.
In the United States, Burger King and Taco Bell had already abandoned the use of ammonia in their products. The food industry uses ammonium hydroxide as an anti-microbial agent in meats, which has allowed McDonald’s to use otherwise “inedible meat.”
Even more disturbing is that because ammonium hydroxide is considered part of the “component in a production procedure” by the USDA, consumers may not know when the chemical is in their food.
On the official website of McDonald’s, the company claims that their meat is cheap because, while serving many people every day, they are able to buy from their suppliers at a lower price, and offer the best quality products.
In addition, the franchise denied that the decision to change the recipe is related to Jamie Oliver’s campaign. On the site, McDonald’s has admitted that they have abandoned the beef filler from its burger patties.

I am sure the 40's Styles are coming our way again..... Hope so
I was at a car boot sale last week and saw a lady wearing the same hair style as the woman top left of this post and it reminded me so much of my mother, my mum told me when she rolled her hair she used cotton wool inside one of her stockings to give the hair a lift. I love these dresses and I would definately wear either of them but particularily the one on the left.
I love the jumpsuits and that suit with the V panel front is just stunning, and lastly the gorgoeus Betty Grable with her fabulous hairstyle. Looking at this made me sad I cut my hair, but with my very curly hair I dont think I could ever have the patience to try to tame it enough to get it to look so stylish. Do you have a favourite era?

€2 Chair a pot of Paint and a lot of Elbow Grease... Tada
Saw this chair a few weeks ago in a brocante (French Secondhand shop) and thought to myself how nice it would look if it had a little TLC spent on it, but decided I had enough on my plate for now and anyway I don't need it. 3 times over a period of about a month the chair was still there and waiting for a new home, and I am sure it finally begged me on my last visit (like chairs do) to save it. I was one step ahead though, because unbeknown to me my brain had already decided what I would do with it colour wise but no idea on the seating. The seat is in perfect condition well sprung and very comfy.. bonus!
So I went and asked how much and if it was going to be more than €15 forget it.... €2 later and it was mine, and so I left with a big smile and the chair, well wouldn't you? It has two castor's on the front, and I don't really see what purpose they serve, and a fabulous carved front panel. After a lot of sanding I gave it two coats in a mat Linen and used a heavy cotton with blue & white stripes and dotted with pink peony roses. I didn't have a trim that matched the material so I decided to make a swag effect round the bottom edge. Turned out pretty well and was fun to do and I made a little lavender sachet out of a scrap that was left over, well I would wouldn't I:) Have you revamped anything lately? would love to see it.
