Poppy builds herself a huge Insect Hotel

My granddaughter Poppy wanted to make an insect hotel but decided she wanted a big one. Dad cut out the wood and of she goes. She has some little bird house lights to attach and also wants to add a sign. Love the fact that she doesn't sit with her eyes glued to her phone,  in fact she thinks they can be very annoying. Wonder what she will be when she grows up? Think mum helped a little too.

Fibre Doodling

Mid morning and I am sewing (no surprises there then) when I managed to  knock (well more swipe) my thread catcher of the table and as I bent down to pick it up it flipped over and yip all the threads plopped out. I was quite mesmerised with all the colours and thought to myself that it must be time for a fibre doodle. Have not done this very often (does it show)? Still here is how I made  the fibre heart.

Took a piece of cotton and scattered a few bits of lace and fabric pieces on to it

then placed a piece of Water Soluble on top

 stitched round all edges and then  went for free motion stitching

 soaked in water for 10 minutes and left it to dry, then cut out the heart shapes

 tada and not even sure if I like this but certainly used up my scrap threads

This is my Jean Jeanie bag I was sewing when the thread fell out and well the rest is history.

Two Fat Quarters

Last week I received two fat quarters 46cm x 56xm (18" x 22") from Higgs & Higgs one is a beautiful cotton print with Dragonflies & Wildflowers on a mauve background, the other is Rabbits & Hares with a grass green background with red flowers. I wanted to see what I could make from one fat quarter and so I decided to make a Thread catcher which shows the dragonflies of beautifully and a matching wrist pin cushion with a rolled rose center.  I then  used a strip to finish of a tea towel or guest towel and was left with two small squares which I piped in grey and made a lavender sachet and the very last piece just made another rolled rose which I plopped onto the sachet. I still have the Hares & Rabbits to do. Dream fabric to work with and very reasonably priced. Have a look at their web site, and  I would suggest you  make a cuppa before you start as you  might be some time in there. What do you think you would have made?

I used to wear Peter Pan Collars years ago so I made this to dress up a white t-shirt, really makes a difference. On my list to do to make a few other colours.

A laundry bag which is great if you don't have the space for a laundry basket. 

So all in all I have found it a challenge to find the time to blog these past couple of weeks and I bet I am not alone in this,

When you find you have some Extra Time

Well it has been an interesting week to say the least. The sun was shining (for a change) and I was listening to the radio and then silence! my radio is wireless so if the internet goes down so does the radio. Later discovered that the guy who was cutting the grass verges didn't see the Marker Post and chopped the top off and sliced through all the cables that connect us to the Internet and telephone.  It made me realise just how much we rely on the internet and it was a shock as to how much I missed being able to google a new recipe, add a picture, check my facebook, my Etsy shop etc.

I would say that for me a normal day using the internet I would spend a good two hours a day, so I now had that extra time on my hands so I decided to make good use of it while I could. I started with defragging and cleaning up my computer, even cleaned the screen and keypad. Spent a long time sorting out pictures (been meaning to do this for months). Then we were told that it could be a week before we were going to be connected again. So for me it meant that apart from popping to a friends house with my laptop to check my mails etc which took me less than 15min I turned back to crafting as I dont need internet for that (thankfully)

Made a couple of journals

 I finally made myself a thread catcher after the casters on my chair almost succeeded in catapulting me across the room when I tried to move my chair as they were chock a block with threads and hair (threads I can understand but where did the hair come from)? and I spent longer trying to remove all the threads from the casters than it did to make the catcher, so no more blocked casters and hopefully I wont ever have to clean the ruddy things out again.

Playing with lace and made a set of earrings, also made a black  pair.

Made this sachet for a little girl called Olivia and it will be in the post tomorrow

Made a few more bee and swallow sachets up as they sold the other day (yay) 

This for me was the best make though a dress for my grand daughter Poppy from a pair of old curtains. So for the 3 days that I was offline I felt that I made good use of my extra time (approx 6 hours) and fully intend to try and spend less time on the net.... time will tell but I am working on it. How long on average would you say you spent daily on the net?

Some Goodies from India...

Well I had to ditch most of my clothes in order to bring all these gorgeous goodies back with me... I normally dislike..... hate shopping but when it comes to materials I am in my element. I fell in love with the printing blocks made from Mango wood which I found in Fort Cochi, and one day I hope to get round to using them. I can't wait to get crafting again.
