Nana they're not Pink!

My granddaughter Poppy will be moving soon and she will have her own bedroom, as she loves cats I thought I would maker her a few, well I did and but they had no faces and they looked very boring and characterless.

I gave them red eyes at first and they all  looked as if they had severe hangovers so I unpicked and did black ones with whiskers.
They dont stand up so I made a few circles on a few so they could sit on a shelf, I looked for a small box to sit them in but have not found anything suitable yet.
then I thought maybe they would look good hanging, a mummy cat and kitten, some I filled with lavender and some with rose petals and a few with just the poly fiber.
Mummy cat below looked shocked that I could even think of unpicking her eyes so I left her well alone and she thinks she is purrfect!

I should have checked first with Poppy!!! yes they are lovely Nana but they're not PINK!!!

Before you throw the Duvet Out

I was given a  pink floral and lacy duvet cover, and as pink is not my favourite colour (not that I was ungrateful for the donation I might add)  it was dutifully washed, cut  into usable pieces and  put away till I got my head round as to what to do with it.  As it turned out that did  not take very long,  the first thing I made was some bunting for Poppy (my grand daughter's) new bedroom, seeing as she  loves pink, so 15 flags in all and I even used the lace that came with the original duvet cover, well would be rude not to really.

Then the The Great British Sewing Bee popped onto our screens and Poppy saw the smocked dress and said she loved it and could she have one!  I rummaged through my materials and finally came up with  some blue & lilac floral and a good match in a plain lilac. Poppy of course wanted a pink one, that at least should have been a good cue for me to remember the duvet! well it didn't, and now I am actually glad   my memory chose not to remind me, as this combination worked well together, and have to say Pops loves it and she does look cute in it.   I have no idea how long it is since I last  smocked and I had forgotten how much fun it is (once you get the tension right that is). Should I be worried that I keep forgetting things?

Now back to the duvet cover, so far, bunting, 1 smocked dress, a little lavender sachet, and  I still have a  goodly amount left left. mmh... what else can I make? I do have a pouch bad ready cut out to stitch. So just before you decide to get rid  have a quick think again, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Have you  made anything with your duvet? please share would love to see your creations.

Celebration Giveaway Personalised Lavender Sachet

Well I posted this giveaway on Facebook yesterday after reaching  2,000 fans (so I got carried away and without thinking it through properly, plopped it on my wall!!!)  and well, long story short fell foul of their rules,  which I seem to find increasingly hard to follow these days, and it was subsequently removed.  So here it is again all above board. A personalised sachet like the one pictured above (which was won on my last giveaway by the lovely Debbie:) an Art Deco Font on vintage linen, filled with my organic lavender harvested by my own fair hands here in the South West of France, and a very cute silver heart stamped "made with love" and tied with matching thread.
So, all you have to do to enter (note no rafflecopter today)  is give me up to three initials and your preferred colour for the embroidery you would like to have for the initials. Fortunately I had taken a note of who had already entered whew!!!!

You dont have to follow my blog, or like my face book page to enter but if you feel like sharing then good on you and I thank you. I will choose at random next Sunday 7th April and will let you know who the winner is.

Suffolk Puffs with Lavender *****Tutorial*****

As I was in the middle of making a hairband with what I call Suffolk Puffs also known as Yo Yo's. I wondered what it would look like if I stuffed them with lavender, best way to find out it is to give it a go, and that's just what I did:) forgive me if you have done this before as I am sure this is not an original idea but thought I would pass it on all the same. I used a bronze silk but you could use almost any cute little scraps you have lying around and these are now hanging in my wardrobe and look pretty good even if I say so myself.  So if your ready, go gather your bits and bobs.

Scrap of material
needle
matching thread
scissors
beads or button
little ribbon or cord
filling

Cut out a circle 14cm (5.5") (this will give you 5cm (2") finished size) you can make them any size you want really but I think this is a good size for putting on a hanger.

Fold over edge as you work round the circle and using a  baste stich , try to keep the stitches roughly the same size.

Pull up and gather leaving a gap, add your filling, then pull tight and tie off and it will give  you a lovely little puff ball with lots of folds. Then just add a bead or button and either a little cord or ribbon for hanging and your done. Very simple and makes a great little gift to yourself or friends. Would love to see yours if you make any. Here are the hairbands which started me off.

Playing with Vintage Lace and Pearls

It was whislt making this lavender cup  for a friend who got married last week that set me off to try  something else with my vintage lace. I have already made a few lace rings and bobby pins but not earrings and have to say think they are softly romantic. I prefer the bigger ones.

My Lavander's on fire

It was such a cold day that I kept feeding the fire and it was crackling and burning beautifully, I then happened to glance  out my window and  I saw that my lavender bush was on fire so I ran into the kitchen and filled a basin of water and rushed outside. The lavender bush was where it always was and there was no fire. I threw the water at it all the same and came back inside and looked out the window  and there it was again the bush was on fire. This time though I did not panic and grabbed my camera and took the picture. The fire was simply reflecting off the window pane.
