Frister & Rossmann new Vibrating - Shuttle!

My Frister & Rossmann's sewing machine has finally come back home, she has been on display for a year along with other vintage sewing  machines in a French Chateau.  I love just looking at her as she has the most beautiful Art Nouveau gold corn flower decals, along with a white porcelain handle and she still works a treat and stitches beautifully. My daughter in law Helen bought it for £5 at a rubbish dump in the North of England a few years back and gave it to me as she thought rather than have it dumped I would at least give it a good home, well I have and am more than pleased that it never got scrapped. It was last repaired on the 11th March 1964 at a cost of £2.3.9 (2 pounds 3 shillings & 9 pence). Could  be that it was made between 1904/07 but need to do more research. If you know when it was made then I would really appreciate your info.

. The center decal reads "Harrods limited, No 50, Brompton Road London S.W., Harrods Serving the World". Serial number 1405860. Also according to Alex Askaroff from Sewalot he has a rare cover well I have the entire booklet so that's good news for me.

 Thanks Helen great gift

Ps Just to let you know that I now have a pdf file of the instruction manual so if you would like a copy, at the top right of my page you will see "Contact me" send me a mail and I will happily send you a copy

Lovely machine, especially for a dump find. I have just picked up a similar machine that I hope to make functional although mine is not nearly as sparkly as yours. Is there any chance in receiving a copy of the instruction manual?

I will send you a copy John no problem

Christine,
Thanks so very much for taking the time to do this for me. I have successfully downloaded the copy that you made. Having this will dramatically shorten my learning curve with this machine.

All the best,
John

Hi John
Delighted that you got it so quickly. I was hoping I could put the file on my blog but it's just a tad on the big side. Let me know if you get it up and running (sew to speak)

Christine,

While mine is not as shiny as yours I don't think it has had too much use. I've wiped it down and oiled all the points and completed my first two simple projects with some 8oz canvas that my brother will be the recipient of this Christmas. I've not sewn before so have nothing to compare against but it seems to be working just great. Thanks again for the manual.

Hi John
That's really good to hear and I am delighted to have played a small part in makinng it run again. Would love to see your project with canvas before your brother gets it:)

Hi

Thanks for posting this. I have just acquired what looks a similar model to this (although not in such good condiditon) from my Mother in law to try and get it working for my nearly 14 year old daughter. Dd has language processing disorder and learning difficulties and I know an electric machine would be too uncontrolable for her.

I would be so grateful for the pdf instructions as I cannot work out the shuttle threading. Not sure if it will be the same but worth a look if you don't mind.
farrsingrosmont@btinternet.com

Thanks if this is possible but even if not it was great to see your beautiful machine

Hi! You have such a lovely machine. I have just acquired my own F&R vibrating shuttle machine and am hoping that you are still willing to share a pdf copy of your fantastic manual. It is so exciting to have such a fine machine and see others. I also own a 1916 Singer 66 Treadle that was given to me by a friend and it is so wonderful to sew on. I need the F&R manual to see how to use that vibrating shuttle thing. Hope that you can help and I wish you all the best for you and your family!

Hi I have just brought a sewing machine like this down from the loft for my teenage daughter to use and would love a copy of the manual please. They are truly beautiful aren't they, would be using it myself if I didn't have an ancient Bernina. I know you said to email so will try and find your email and use that as well.

Thanks Maire

Hello Chrissie,
Thank you so much for the pdf manual for early Frister and Rossman sewing machines. My machine still refuses to form stitches although it picks up the bobbin thread fine : {

I have some pics of it i'd like to upload...but not sure how to.

Thank you very much for the manual. It's so helpful to have it, : )

Glad you got it ok Caroline, and hope that you get it to run. Have you tried changing the needle it may be that it is set to low or perhaps bent. Let me know how it goes.

I ordered some groz-beckert DB x 257 / 287 WH industrial needles off eBay and have just hemmed a curtain lining with this lovely machine. My machine looks like a model E except that it has the daisy decal rather than Cleopatra. It has a reverse gear too.
Thanks so much for your help Chrissie and everyone who has written about these machines. Mine moves like well oiled clockwork ( which is what it is I suppose ), and with and endless supply of current cheap industrial needles I can see it sewing for another century. : )

Delighted to hear your getting use from your machine. I am amazed at how many requests I have had for the manual 14 in fact, and it's lovely to be able to pass it on. Wishing you many more hours of sewing. Thank you for your update Bella.

Hey, never really posted on anything like this before! I acquired a very similar machine about 5 hours ago and am smitten already. Have been searching all evening to research and find information about it. As well as having a little play and have even managed a few stitches!! Exciting. I would be so very grateful, if you still have the pdf of the instructions, and would be able to email them to me? I am worried that if I carry on stitching I might damage something as not sure I have threaded it properly. My email is sarahjbroom@me.com Many Thanks Sarah

Hi Chrissie
My Christmas present was a very similar F&R handcrank--only mine is unbadged (seems to be dated 1916--WWI). I'm amazed by this machine--it works so smoothly. I would love to have a copy or your manual, since I'm only guessing about the bobbin winder. bethcorwin@yahoo.com

Great xmas pressie Beth and the file is on it's way to you. They are great machines, built to last and as you say smooth, have fun xx

Thank you so much for forwarding the pdf copy of the Frister and Rossman Vibrating Shuttle manual. It has saved the day. I bought an old F&R sewing machine so that my son and I can do some leatherwork, but we struggled to understand how to fill the bobbin and load the shuttle. Now we can. Many thanks for your generosity in providing the manual.

Thank you so very much Chrissie for the manual for my Frister & Rossmann vibrating shuttle machine model E apparently made in 1927 with stunning gold images of Cleopatra it has been converted to electricity at some point and the only thing missing is the porcelain crank handle but still a beautiful robust machine.

Kindest Regards Janet

Hi.

My father has just given my wife the Frister and Rossmann Model E that belonged to my grandmother, who almost certainly had it from new.

It looks identical to the picture of the machine from Harrods.

I don't have any paperwork or manuals for it, and don't know where to look for the serial number.

My wife would be really happy if you were able to send a copy of the manual, as it's mainly guess work how to set it up at the moment.

Her mail address is nina.gathercole@gmail.com.

Thank you very much in advanced.

The detail of the ornamentation is in beautiful condition. We had a Singer with similar design & wooden handle. I loved it & played with it when I was little until one day when Mum wasn't looking and of course there was a needle in it. It went straight through my finger! Poor Mum didn't know whether to turn the handle forward or back! I haven't gone near a sewing machine since!

Krishenkas Treasures said...

oh Kate that must have really hurt, my fingers are twitching at just the thought. I can see why you don't have any desire to get close to any sewing machine, still at least you can look and admire all the same.xx

Hi I have an F&R E model which has been in old damp farm building, the woodwork is shot & falls apart & crumbled just looking at it, but the machine looks OK, I think it's to good to throw away if I can get it moving, although I can't get the thing to work, could be completely ceased up, or the fact I have no idea how it works!! Please would you be able to send me the instructions? shirl007.ludlow@gmail.com
Thanks Shirley

Hi! Just liked and cleaned my machine that I bought for £15 in 1977. It works lime a dream but I'd love a copy of the instructions as mine don't match the machine. The feet are not as in the guide and I don't understand how to use them. Thanks in advance. Sally. theitalianconnection@hotmail.com
